Paid contest eligibility

Free events, the community, courses, and memberships are available to everyone, everywhere. Paid-entry competitions are different: state contest laws decide where cash-entry skill contests can run, so paid entry is limited to eligible US states.

Two kinds of paid events

Fixed-prize events

Your entry fee is a flat platform fee. Prizes are pre-announced and funded by Mayz Island or sponsors — they don't grow with the number of entries.

Prize-pool events

The pot is built from player entries — the more players enter, the bigger the prize pool.

State contest laws treat the two differently, so each event type has its own list of restricted states.

Where paid contests aren't available

Age requirements

  • Platform accounts are 13+.
  • Paid contests are 18+ everywhere, computed from your date of birth at entry time. A few states set the bar higher — those are noted above.
  • Free events with cash prizes are 18+ for now.

Location verification

We verify location at entry time based on your connection. VPNs and proxies aren't permitted for paid entry and will usually fail verification — if you can't enter, turn yours off and try again. Free events are unaffected.
